SIMPLE ROOTS AND HUMBLE ORIGINS
This story started in 2010, in a small town by the majestic Koolau’s of Kaneohe Bay and an even smaller kitchen. With 12+ years experience as a nutritionist helping people to heal from acute conditions, I made a living finding natural substitutes for pharmaceuticals and returning people back to nature. The Hana Hou Juice Co. brand was born along side a premium selection of Hawaiian, biodynamically-grown fruits, vegetables, Ayurvedic and Taoist herbs.
We are fueled by a heart-felt mission and need to provide family-friendly, shareable, larger sized, nutrient rich drinks for all. We've begun the journey to grant Oahu access to more fruits and vegetables everyday, simply by drinking them.
Our fundamental belief is that everyone should have access to 7-9 servings of organic vegetables and fruits per day. A new peer reviewed study conducted by the University College of London in 2024 showed that people who ate seven or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day reduced their risk of premature death by 42%. Consuming that many servings of produce each day reduced the risk of death from cancer by 25% and heart disease by 31%. This research was published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health and studied the eating habits of over 65,000 people over 12 years.
So, 7-9 servings of cold-pressed vegetables and fruit is what we provide through each quart size (32oz) of premium juice. No matter what kind of diet you believe in for yourself and your family (vegan, paleo, pescatarian), everyone can appreciate more rainbow-colored vegetables & fruits delivered to their door in a pretty glass bottle, chilled and ready to drink. Hi, my name is Mare'ka Jensen-Madison. I was born and raised on the Windward side of Oahu. But back in 2011, I moved to Los Angeles and opened the first organic juice, tonic & freshly-juiced cocktail bar on Ventura Blvd, in Studio City. This was all before non-alcoholic spirits became so popular. We featured many Taoist herbs and adaptogenic plants in our elixirs and tonics. The bar was only 900 square feet but it was also home to a Master Herbalist, other Nutritionists, Superfood Gurus, Apothecary Craft Bartenders and 100 handcrafted drinks that the community loved. After 4 years and no room to grow or scale, I sold that location to an herbalist and headed back to the islands.
Private nutrition has been a repetitive world of helping clients heal their gut and their mood. No matter how many nutrition protocols I’d write up over the years, there was no real telling if people were actually consuming enough fruits and vegetables every day. There were a couple of health scares in my immediate and extended family. I realized that no one was going to become less busy over time. I had to find an easier way for people to consume more vegetables. Fruit, sure... but mainly more rainbow-colored vegetables.
So now we are bringing the juice from a small commercial kitchen on the windward side, The Key Project, right to your door.
