Frequently asked questions

Yes, all of our juices are made from organic fruits and vegetables (except currently for red cabbage and our local mint), while about 60% of our ingredients are sourced locally in the Hawaiian Islands. This is to ensure quality and freshness and that our juices maintain a strong connection to the Aina. The organic blackberries, organic almonds, organic red apples, organic red grapes and red cabbage are not currently grown anywhere in the islands, so we bring them in from California. Non-organic items are soaked in baking soda for 30 minutes to neutralize any pesticides

We partner with local organic farms here in Hawaii, such as Kahumana Organic Farms, so each ingredient is Oahu farm fresh. In some cases, we may source from other certified organic farms in outer islands, always prioritizing quality and sustainability. A few ingredients are sourced from organic farms in California.

Yes, all of our juices are designed to have a low glycemic index, with phytochemicals that help regulate and balance blood sugar levels over time. We achieve this by using ingredients like carrot, beet, sweet potato, and even a moderate amount of orange. These ingredients are generally safe for diabetics when consumed as part of a balanced diet that includes protein and fiber.

For Malama Juice:
• We can exclude red grapes for diabetics upon request, as they are the only high glycemic fruit on our menu.

About Pineapple:
• Fresh whole pineapple has a low GI ranking of 51, and the fresh pineapple juice in Pono has an even lower ranking because it removes solid carbohydrates during the juicing process. Leaving some pulp in (the fiber) further lowers the glycemic response. You can request pulp in our juices for added nutrition benefits.
• The manganese in fresh pineapple helps improve blood sugar metabolism.

About Orange:
• Whole oranges have a low GI index; however, orange juice has a higher GI count. In our Alaula 32oz bottles and 16oz bottles, we incorporate less than 4 ounces of orange juice.
• Akala, a delightful blend of orange, pineapple, lime, and habanero, may influence blood sugar levels in varying degrees. For individuals with diabetes, it's advisable to exercise caution and limit consumption to 4oz servings.
• Our concentrated shot, Ake Aloha ‘Liver Love,’ includes fresh orange juice but is designed for consumption in 4oz servings, ensuring it remains generally safe for diabetics."

Remember: Individual responses to fruit vary, so consult a healthcare provider or dietitian for personalized advice, especially if you have health conditions."

Hana Hou Juice Co. stands out in several ways. First and foremost, our juices are made-to-order FRESH! No one else does that and then delivers too. We don't press any juices until you put your order in. Our competition will press juice once a WEEK and sell it off for many days afterwards. Cold-pressed juice has a short shelf life. We deliver the juice into your hands a few hours after pressing it for you, not a few days later. Our blends are crafted with a deep commitment to individual health and well-being. Each is curated by a certified nutritionist, dedicated to crafting nutrient dense drinks not found on the market yet. Our juices are designed to meet daily nutritional requirements by delivering 9 servings of organic vegetables and fruits in each bottle. We keep their sugar content low, making them suitable for a wide range of individuals, including busy professionals, kids, diabetics, people over 65, and those recovering from illness. We believe in the power of preventative health, and our juices are created to support healing and reduce inflammation, making them an excellent choice for the health-conscious.

At Hana Hou Juice Co., we have a unique approach to nutrition. We strongly believe in the benefits of consuming whole fruits for their valuable nutrients, rather than juicing them. Their sugar content is quite high, so eating fruits in their natural state is a principle we uphold for promoting optimal health and longevity.
However, when it comes to vegetables, we recognize that people don't consume them whole as often as fruits. To make these nutritious vegetables more accessible and digestible, we've chosen to juice them. Our goal is to ensure that our juices can be consumed daily over the long term while still maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.
One important fact to note is that fruits typically contain three times more calories than vegetables. To strike the right balance, we've developed a powerful formula: Every 32oz bottle contains seven servings of vegetables and two servings of fruits. This careful balance not only maximizes nutrition but also helps keep blood sugar levels in check.

Adding adaptogenic herbs to our juices can enhance your overall well-being in several ways:
1. Stress Management: Adaptogens are known for their ability to help your body adapt to stress, both physical and emotional. They can assist in reducing stress hormones like cortisol, promoting a sense of calm and mental clarity.
2. Immune Support: Many adaptogens have immune-boosting properties. They can strengthen your body's natural defense mechanisms, making it more resilient to illness.
3. Energy and Vitality: Adaptogens can provide a sustained energy boost without the crashes associated with caffeine or sugar. They help your body maintain energy levels throughout the day.
4. Hormonal Balance: Some adaptogens, like ashwagandha, can help regulate hormones, promoting balance within your body's systems.
5. Enhanced Nutrient Absorption: Adaptogens can improve the absorption of nutrients from the fruits and vegetables in our juices, ensuring you get the maximum benefit from each sip.
6. Overall Health: By incorporating adaptogenic herbs, you're making a conscious choice to support your body's resilience, balance, and vitality.

At Hana Hou Juice Co., we've carefully selected adaptogens to complement our juice blends, enhancing their health-promoting qualities. These adaptogens have been chosen by a certified nutritionist to ensure they align with our commitment to delivering nutritionally balanced and low-sugar juices.
